In partnership with the City of Pittsburgh, Mount Washington Community Development Corporation, and the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy, this master plan for Pittsburgh's biggest regional park required creative approaches to community engagement, as outreach was conducted virtually during the COVID-19 pandemic. We worked with the city to create an online survey, door hangers, focus groups, and distanced interviews to bring together a broad range of city and community stakeholders. Together, we developed both broad and specific strategies for park improvements, including increasing the park's connectivity and accessibility, building on existing historical and cultural programs, addressing stormwater and landslide concerns, and continuing momentum for future investment. The resulting plan translates that input into design recommendations for each part of the park — anchor destinations, trails, and trail entrances — along with phasing, partnership, and implementation strategies to guide investment over time.
