This week-long tactical installation tested whether an existing commercial street could be converted to pedestrian-only use — and invited the public into that conversation. Using milk crates, wooden poles, and duct tape, the installation experimented with future planter and seating locations and demonstrated the potential of the space beyond street parking. Site design renderings were presented on-site, and residents shared their feedback on the future of the plaza. That input, along with insights gathered through coordination with local businesses, directly shaped the design for a permanent plaza along Birch Street.
